Electrical Troubleshooting & Repair in Austin
Electrical problems show up as symptoms, but the cause is often somewhere else. A breaker that started tripping after a kitchen remodel, lights that flicker when the AC kicks on, an outlet in the new addition that quit. Premium Electrics troubleshoots faults across Austin, Round Rock, Pflugerville and Cedar Park with proper testing. We find exactly what failed, explain it in plain terms, and repair it quickly so the problem doesn't keep coming back.
Describe the problem and we'll tell you how quickly we can be there.

Faults we diagnose
- Breakers that trip repeatedly or won't reset
- Problems that started after a remodel or addition
- Lights that flicker or dim when the AC starts
- Dead outlets, or several that stopped together
- GFCI and AFCI breakers that trip without an obvious cause
- Buzzing from switches, outlets or the panel
- Warm outlets or cover plates
How we troubleshoot
We start at the panel, measure voltage and current on the affected circuit, then check each device and junction along the run until we isolate the fault. In Austin's older bungalows we often find original wiring spliced into new work, loose connections and circuits extended too many times. In newer suburban homes, nuisance AFCI trips, overloaded kitchen circuits and failing backstab connections are common. Testing beats guessing every time.
Repairs that fix the cause
Once the cause is clear, we repair it: an overloaded circuit split, a failing connection rebuilt, a worn breaker replaced, a past wiring mistake corrected. If we find a larger issue, like a panel at capacity, we explain it with options and let you decide.

Troubleshooting questions
Why does my AFCI breaker keep tripping?
It could be a wiring fault, a damaged cord, or an appliance that the breaker reads as arcing. We test the circuit to find out.
Lights flicker when the AC starts. Is that normal?
A brief dip can be, but persistent flicker suggests a loose connection or undersized service. We'll measure it.
Can I put in a bigger breaker?
No. Breakers protect the wire. A larger one on the same wire is a fire risk. We find out why it's tripping.
Do you fix wiring from previous remodels?
Yes. Correcting past work is a big part of our troubleshooting in Austin.
